Bill
Barnes has over 36 years of experience in Material Handling
Engineering. Most recently, Bill held the position of
Vice President, Corporate Engineering at Ingram Book
Company, the world's largest wholesale book distributor.
During his tenure, the company expanded from three distribution
centers to seven and one returns processing center comprising
over two million square feet. Additionally, he was responsible
for the integration of equipment and facilities obtained
during several acquisitions and for the transition into
e-commerce.
He
coordinated a variety of interfaces with the IT department
and assisted with the development of a comprehensive
plan to integrate bar coding, radio frequency technology
and label printing on demand. The warehouse bins configurations,
narrow aisle and single carton storage concepts, and
mezzanine designs were all part of his responsibility.
Ingram distribution centers that are supplying products
directly to e-commerce consumers are using packaging
machines designed and developed by Bill.
Prior
to Ingram, Bill worked in Process Engineering for Genesco,
Inc., and Material Handling Sales and Engineering for
The Bailey Company and for Rapistan.
Bill
holds a degree in Industrial Arts from North Carolina
State University.
